Land information register

A first step in providing substantive protection to the buyer of a site is to put at his disposal an inventory of all land of which relevant soil information is available. To that end, the OVAM has compiled a land information register that is being updated on an ongoing basis. This register contains separate files of the land with the following information:
  • The cadastral data;
  • The identities of the owner and the user;
  • A summary description of the level of the soil contamination or of the riskactivities.
In addition, a number of data may be listed as optional items:
  • The reports of exploratory or descriptive soil investigations;
  • The soil remediation project;
  • The content of the conformance certificate;
  • The statement delivered following the performance of a soil remediation procedure.

From the moment a land is registered in the land information register, the OVAM forwards a certificate to the owner and the user of the land and to the municipality on whose territory the parcel is located. The municipality will make the certificates available for inspection by interested parties.

On simple request, the OVAM will provide a soil certificate with regard to the the sites included in the register. The certificate lists the data that must be mentioned in the register. If no information is available on a given site, the certificate will make mention of that.
